Task: To repair damaged and delaminated fibreglass
A note from the owner.
I have a small repair required to my Lightning. it looks as though the underlying glass has failed and I have a 'soft spot'.
roughly the decks are flat with 45deg chamfer before a vertical drop to the cockpit floor. it seems to have failed at the flat to the 45 deg transition. no access from the inside as its well away from any hatches.
After close inspection from both the outside and inside I decided not to chop out the inner handle, as suggested by the boat builder. I carefully ground out the damaged area, taking care not to go right the way through! A thin coremat was laid into the repair then glassed and gel coated in the usual way. After profiling and polishing another boat is ready to get back to the lake.
